A WONDERFUL CLOCK.

French history describes a clock, which was sent to Charlemagne in the year 807 by the famous Eastern Caliph, Haroun-al-Raschid. This clock was a wonderful affair, and caused a great deal of interest at the Court. Twelve small doors in the dial formed divisions for the hours. At the hour, these doors all opened and let out a number of tiny brass balls which fell on to a bell and struck tho hour. The doors stayed open until the hour of twelve, when twelve '' knights " on horseback came out and paraded round the dial. This was considered a great novelty in those days.
