Girls' Own.

A HANDY KIT.

(Original.) By VERA HELLIER, Marohemo, Kaipara.

For this you use an unwashed sugarbag, one yard of cretonne and your odds and ends of coloured wool. F'irst cut four pieces, the same sizo and shape as Fig.

2, out of the sugar-bag. On each piece applique a bunch or a basket of flowers, using the wool to buttonhole it on. Do not use all one colour. Now stitch the four pieces together, and gather them on a band cut from the sugar-bag, as in Fig. 5. Fig. 4 is the handle. Before lining it take the coloured wools and, using them alternately, make rows of stitching round and round the kit. Do the handle and band also. Cut four as in Fig 2 out of the cretonne and stitch together for the lining, and then attach to the kit. You can cut the applique motifs from a floral material. This kit is very handy and may be used for many things.
