The British open golf championship at Carnoustio was won iiy T. D. Armour with a scoro of 296. Jurado (Argentina) was second with 297. Tlio third best scores were those of Alliss and Sarazen (America), 298. Then camo Macdonald-Smith (America) and Farrell, 299; Churio (Argentina) and Da vies, 300; Lacey, 301; Havers, Cotton, 302; Mitchell, Horton-Smiih (America), Genta, Williamson, 303; Dalemagne, R. A. Whitcombe, Oke, Hunter, 304; Boomer, Robson, 306; Holland, E. R. Whitcombe, 307; Hodson, Twine, Kirk* wood, 308; Compstorj, C. A. Whitcombe, 309; Duncan, 312; Easlerbrook, 313; Gadd, 317; Rex Hartley, 321. Stewart (Australia), with two others, look 315, and there were 46 competitors with lower aggregates. Armour, who is of Scottish birth, was victorious 'after one of the most thrilling finals in the championship, played in a difficult wind. lie was the most beautiful golfer in tho field. There were 20,000 spectator^. Armour exploited his very straight hitting, hard driving and brilliant iron play, and holed several long putts. Cotton, the British hope, cracked early. Alliss once heartened the British supporters, but two disastrous holes spoilt a splendid round. Jurado, whom the Prince af Wales followed, fought nobly, but had the cup dashed from his iips when he seemed winning. With two holes to go he mysteriously fluffed his tee shot into a brook. He was also bunkered, and left wanting a four to tie, amid the tensest excitement. In spite of an excellent a2>proach shot, his putt just went past the brink of the hole. Jolly has resigned from tho British Ryder Cup team,, owing to his loss of form. Havers replaces him. Bert Hodson has been invited to fill tho last place. T. D. Armour was born in Edinburgh in 1895. When an amateur player ha won the French amateur championship and represented Britain versus America in 1921. He became a professional in 1925, and in 1927 won the American open and the Canadian open championships, and the Canadian title again in 1930. Armour has woo many other championships, including the American professional in 1.930. Jose Jurado was born in Buenos Aires in 1899. He won tho Argentine open championship, 1920, 1924, 1925, 1927 and 1929. In the British open in 1926 he tied for sixth place, and in 1928 tied for fifth place. .
