EVENTS AT ROTORUA. CONTESTS FOR AXEMEN. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ROTORUA, Wednesday. Beautiful sunshine favoured the sports carnival held in the Government grounds io-day and there was a large attendance. Competitions for axemen attracted wellknown performers. Another feature was the women's hockey contest for the Aard Cup. in which teams from Whakatane, Te Puke, Ta Teko nnd Rotorua took part. Results of tho events are ns follows: Open 12in. Nearly 500 persons travelled by train from Tauranga to Thames to-day. Tho weather was overcast, but, fine. Rugby results were as follows.—Seniors: Tauranga, S, beat Thames, 6. Juniors: Thames, 6. beat Tauranga. 0. High schools: Tauranga, 8, beat 'I hames, 3. Primary schools: Thames, 12, beat Tauranga, 0. The hockey match was drawn, both Tauranga and Thames scoring 7 goals.
