After a hearing which occupied the whole day and during which 17 witnesses were called, Norman Tinney, married, of I'atea, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial by justices of the peace in the F'atca I'olic.e Court yesterday on a charge of manslaughter, in that ho caused the death of Stuart Carlyle Humphrey, aged 18, a farm hand, through the negligent driving of a motor car. Bail was fised at £2OOO.
Accused pleaded not guilty. An inquest was hold in conjunction with the hearing, the verdict being that Humphrey died on May 16 from shock find laceration of tho brain as the result. <">f a collision between a motor-car and the cyclo ridden by Humphrey. Humphrey's body was found shortly before midnight on tho main road two miles north of Patea. There was no sign of a motor-car.
