REPRESENTATIVE CONTEST.

AUCKLAND AND THE NAVY. FINE GAME ANTICIPATED. Indications are • that tho representative Association football contest to be played at Blandford Park to-day between Auckland and the Navy will be a fast and brilliant exhibition of tho code. Both teams appear powerful combinations on paper, and, combined with the keen rivalry which exists in this annual fixture,, the game should be full of interest. A naval band will be in attendance during tho afternoon to play selections. Two junior curtain-raiser gomes will also bo played. Notification was received at a meeting of tho control board of the Auckland Football Association last evening that the New Zealand Football Association was prepared to finance the Auckland-Wellington English trophy match at Auckland on June 13, pioviding the profits of same, if any, bo held by the New Zealand Association to finance any further English trophy mutches held in Auckland this season. Any not profits derived would go to the Auckland Association at the end of the representative season. -the committee decided to agreo to this suggesIn a letter received from the judicial committee mention was made of the habit of referees in making a penalty kick bo retaken if there was any doubt as to the fairness of the manner in which the kick was made. Tho judicial committee pointed out that the laws of the game contained no support for the attitude of the referees and asked for a ruling on the question. Mr. ,J. Ball, representing the referees, stated that the matter had been referred to the New Zealand Referees' Association and a reply had been received supporting the referees' action in this matter. Mr. Ball said that in the event of the New Zenland Referees' Association's altiludo being questioned the only recourse would be to lefer to the English Football Association for a ruling. CHATHAM CUP GAMES. ARRANGEMENT OF DRAW. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION*.] WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Council of the New Zealand Football Association at its meeting this evening received aii intimation from Brigadier-General W. R. N. Madocks expressing his willingness to act as representative of the association to the English Football Association. The competitions' committee reported that there were 14 entries from the North Island and 17 from tho South Island for the Chatham Cup. This was the first occasion upon which the South Island entries had exceeded those from -the North Island. The committee strongly recommended that the dates set down should be strictly adhered to. The draw fop the Chatham Cup matches is as follows June 20: Wnngonni v. Manawatu, at Palmerßton North; July 18. finalists of provincial rounds to be found in Auckland, South Auckland, Wellington, Westland and Otago; July 25, winner of Mnnajvntu and Wanganui v. Wellington finalists, at Wanganui or Palmei'ston North: Westlund finalists v. Canterbury finalists, at Gre.vmoutli; Auckland v. South Auckland, at Hamilton; August 15. winners of Auckland and South Auckland v. Wellington, at Hamilton or Auckland; Canterbury or Westland v. Otago finalists, at Christchurch or Dunedin. Tho final will be played later. It was reported that the whole of the responsibility for control of the F.A. trophy game between Wellington and Auckland, at Blnndford Park, would be taken over by the council, which would bear any loss. Any profit would be credited to the Auckland Association. TUc match is to be ployed on June 18.
