GOVERNING BODIES' ACTION. The road to good golf is hard. Many would make it easier by. mechanical contrivances. Over a quarter of a century ago the British authorities rightly barred the centre-shafted putter as a mechanical aid to tho player. Later ribbed irons of every description were barred in cham pioriship competitions. The United States Gc 1 f Association has lately put out of action tho "sand wedge," which Bobby Jones found very useful for getting out of bunkers: The association has ruled that "club-faces shall not embody any degree of concavity or more than one angle of loft." Many weird instruments would come into uso on the golf links it the authorities .wera slack in their supetvißion.
