FIRE AT DANNEVIRKE.
ONE SHOP GUTTED. FIVE bTHERS DAMAGED. [llY TELEGRAPH. —I'RESS ASSOCIATION.] DANNEVIRKE. Monday. Fire broko out in High Street at 10 o'clock on Saturday evening in wooden buildings at the south end of tho town, which escaped the serious blaze of 1917. The brigade made a good save, fortunately being favoured by the absence of wind.
The drapery shop of Mr. A. C. Currie was gutted, and the stock was lost. The b'uilding was owned by Mr. G. W. Wright, of Wellington, and was insured in the State office for £275 and tho New Zealand office for £125. Mr. Curric's stock was insured for £6OO in the Insurance Office of Australia.
Other premises affected in a minor degree were those of Messrs. Meakin (fruiterer), Hill (cafe), Martin (jeweller) and Shire (fruiterer) and tho People's Butchery. An estimate of the structural damage has not been made, but most of the loss is covered by insurance.
