NEW SET IN AUSTRALIA.
CONTEST WITH SENATE.
PREFERENCE TO FEDERATION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received May 17, 8.45 p.m.) CANBERRA, May 17. The Federal Ministry has approved of a further set of regulations under the Transport Workers Act. These, as in the case of thoso disallowed recently by the Senate, stipulate for preference in the engagement of labour to members of the Waterside Workers' Federation.
A message from Brisbane states that the shipowners disregarded tho new regulations yesterday, and engaged a large percentage of free labourers. At Melbourne the shipowners have decided to observe tho law, and labour will be picked up on Monday in accordance with the new regulations.
