Three favourites, si second nnd two third favourites were successful on the second day *of the Wanganui Jockey Club's Winter Meeting on Saturday, and investors were fairly well on the mark all thy with the exception of tlio Ptirun Hack Handicap, in which Pakitere and Chief Savage both returned good prices. The conditions for racing were again excellent, and the fine weather attracted a very satisfactory attendance. The leading event, the Wanganui Steeplechase, was won by the favourite, Birkbeck, who gave an attractive exhibition of jumping, to win nicely from Omeo. The first and second horses are both engaged in tho Great Noi l hern Steeplechase at Ellcrslie. The Connolly Handicap was accounted for by Black Duke, and • Richfield confirmed his first day's success by taking the Farewell Handicap. The totalisator handled £13,553 10s, compared with £23,524 on the second clay last year. The total investments for the meeting-were £24,675, as against £46,090 last year, a decrease of £21,415.
