OVERSTAYED PERMIT.
CHINESE HEAVILY FINED.
ORDER FOR DEPORTATION
A fine of £SO, in default six months' imprisonment, was imposed l>y Mr. I'. K. Hunt, S.M., upon Wong Decn, alias Wong Lee, a Chinese laundrynian, aged 26, who pleaded guilty in tho Police Court on Saturday to a charge of staying longer in New Zealand than allowed by a temporary permit granted him in 1928. An order for deportation was also made. The collector of customs, Auckland (Mr. J. Mcintosh), who puosceuted, asked for something more than the usual fine, as accused had been in Now Zealand twice before and had spent a term in prison on a previous charge. lie had attempted once to enter as a stowaway and had put the country to'considerable expense.
