SECRETARY'S RETIREMENT.
THE BUILDING-SOCIETY.
WORK OF MR. J. C. GRIERSON.
After 29 years' service on behalf of the Auckland Co-operative Terminating Building Society Mr. J. C. Grierson is to retire this year from the position of secretary. He joined the society by taking np two shares when the first Auckland group was formed in 1897 and drew tho first ballot of £4OO.
When the first secretary, Mr. Robert Hood, retired from the position in 1902 Mr. Grierson was selected from 34 applicants to fill the vacancy. Six groups were then in existence and none of them was filled. Three years later the society opened four more groups, larger premises were taken and business prospered, until to-day there arc 71 groups.
