PLUMBER'S FATAL FALL.
SLIPPED ON IRON ROOF. HEAD STRIKES WOODEN FENCE. ACCIDENT AT GREY LYNN. Fatal injuries were received bv a plumber, Mr. James Waite, aged 49, of 17, Dromorne Road, Remucra, as a result of falling from Hie iron roof of a house in Harcourt Street, Grey Lynn, shortly before mid-day yesterday. Dig back of deceased's head struck a wooden fence, and death was almost instantaneous. Mr. Waite had made examinations of the roofs of the houses at 18 and 20, Harcourt Street, and had made another ascent to the roof of the house at No. 20 when i,he accident occurred. An eyewitness stated that deceased slipped and fell down the roof. He broke his fall temporarily by grasping the guttering but then struck the side of the house at No. 22 and fell on an asphalt path, his head coming into contact with a wooden fence between the two residences. The height of the roof from the path was about 14 feet. Mr. Waite was dead when Dr. 0. F. Lamb, of Great North Road, arrived. Ho had received a fracture of the base of the skull. Deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary J. Waite, and an adult daughter. An inquest will be opened this morning.
