ADDRESS ON EARTHQUAKES.
r l he mathematics of earthquakes, based rn observations at Napier, was discussed by Professor S. E. Lamb in an illustrated lecture given at a meeting of the New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers. Members of the Institute of Architects were invited to attend.
Mr. S. S. Oxenham read a paper on various earthquake-resisting buildings, pointing out their merits and defects. A paper by Mr. J. It. McLaren on earthqnnko matters was discussed. It dealt with a simplified method of ascertaining stresses in columns due to earthquakes.
