CAUSE OF CANCER.
RESEARCH WORK IN LONDON. USE OF A NEW SERUM. British Wiieles3. RUGBY, May S. Widespread interest has been aroused in experiments which are being conducted into cancer cases at three London hospitals with a serum discovered by Dr. Thompson, lecturer in physiology at King's College, London, and a research worker at the Royal College of Surgeons. Scientists and surgeons in close touch with the tests emphasise that these are still in tho experimental stage. The patients under treatment are being carefully observed, and although it is believed that some benefit has resulted it is too early to say what permanent value there is in the treatment.
This consists of injecting a preparation made from the para-thyroid gland, in order to remedy the deficiency in the components of the blood, which Dr. Thompson believes to be the cause of cancer.
Sir Arthur Keith, Hunteria'n Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons, states that although tho discovery has yielded results which are promising, it must not at present bo regarded as more than marking an interesting stage in the research work, which must bo continued.
