LONG BICYCLE RIDE.
ADELAIDE TO MELBOURNE
GIRLS PEDAL 600 MILES. Two Adelaide girls, Phyllis Sharman, aged 21, and Malba White, aged 19, arrived in Melbourne recently after a COO mile bicycle ride from Adelaide, which they accomplished in 13 days. " It began as a joke," Miss Sharman said. "We are both members of the South Australian Club, and were always talking of riding to Melbourne, but 1 did not take it seriously until one night Melba rang mo up and <aid, 'Get the bikes ready, Phyl. We'll go to Melbourne to-morrow.' "
The trip cost the girls 6s 6d each. Practically every hotel at which they stayed refused to take payment. They were tired, but fit, at the end of the journey, and intended riding back.
