ZIPPOR'S TWO WINS. A PROMISING HURDLER. Zippor, who placed himself in the limelight by winning ' the two htird.e races at Hawera this, week, is an eight-year-old gelding by King John from the Grafton maro Landrail, hence a haltbrother to Landbird, who won the Great Northern Hurdles in 192 G. On the flat Zippor displayed useful form up to a mile and when put to hurdling last season _1 e showed marked promise by winning twice in succession, then only to disappoint at Trenthain and Riccarton. This season Zippor has hid very little racing, but his two victories at tlawera indicate that he is an improved horse, and the chance 3 are that he may tins winter fulfil the promise he gay* last year Zippor claims an engagement in ihe "feat Northern Hurdles at Ellerslie next month, but whether ho will stay vyell enough to win a race of that description lemains to bo seen. , , , , There is koo<l stayinff blood on Uie maternal side of Zippor's pedigree, but King John did not leave an.V genuine stayers nnd until ho shows that lie can B et longer distances than he hn.a yet tackled Zippor will have to be. taken on trust as a stayer. Taking a lino on his form on the flat and also bearing in mind that lie is one of the dashing type it is |ossible that he might not altogether relish a journey extending to two and _ a-nali miles However, he has shown 111 his latest outings that he lacks nothing in ppeed and jumping ability and. if he tan stay, his chance in the Great Northern Hurdles should be good.
