BETTY'S ADVENTURE.

By OLIVE HYDE, Ruihi Street liotorua (nge 17). (Original.)

" What can it be ?" thought Betty as she turned over in bed to find tho soft silvery moonlight creeping across her pillow.

"Hullo Betty! I've been trying to waken you for ever such a long time. Look, tho moon is over so beautiful and bright, to-night." Betty gazed sleepily toward the open window and there sitting on the ledge was tho prettiest littlo fairy you could imagine.

" I have come to take you to Fairyland. I know you would like to come, for it was only yesterday you were saying to your friend Joan that you would like a midnight adventure." " Oh, it would be lovely,'' cried Betty, slipping out of bed and putting on her dressing gown and slippers. " But how will we get there ? " " Come along," laughed Silvertips, the Fairy. " You will soon see.'i Springing lightly from the sill on to the lawn Betty followed Silvertips clown the long, winding path into the garden. But, oh! Everything had changed. Dainty little fairies in the softest of gauzy dresses flitted here and there, while

gaily dressed elves were busy on their many errands. "We nro very busy at present in Fairyland," said Silvertips. " Her Majesty is coming to-morrow night to inspect the whole of Fairyland." " Oh, it's simply lovely," exclaimed Betty, looking in admiration at a beautiful red rose which a pretty little fairy was busy scenting. " Just look at that baby bunny. Ho is not a bit afraid! What lovely soft fur he has, Silvertips," she said, patting his soft fluffy coat. Betty saw many other little creatures, but none of thein were timid like the ones she saw when picnicking in the bush. She was gazing at a little elf, but when she looked round Silvertips had vanished. In fact, suddenly she found herself standing on the 'lawn under her window with the moonlight still shining into her room. "It has certainly been a wonderful adventure," Betty said to herself as she slipped from her dressing gown into bed.
