BALANCING THE BUDGET.
Sir, —In scrupulously applying the 10 per cent, cut, it appears that the lOd per week hitherto allowed for- "cats' meat" at the general post office, Auckland, has been reduced to 9d. So poor pussy must have her food ration reduced by one penny per week, while this Government continues to throw away thousands of pounds per week on the South Island railways! Poor pussy! Poor taxpayer! J. Thornes.
