RETURNED SOLDIERS.

THE MATAMATA DISTRICT. REVIVAL OF ACTIVITIES. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.j Thursday. The annual meeting of the Matamata 'district branch of the Returned Soldiers' 'Association was held on Monday, when there was a large attendance, Mr. G. G. Griffiths presiding. The report showed that the eight months during which the branch had beep resuscitated after a lapse of some ten years, had been very active, and much distress had been relieved and assistance given. The income for the year amounted to £llO, of which £62 was received by way of subscription. The election, of officers resulted as followsPresident 7 , Mr. G. G. Griffiths; ;vice-president, Mr. F. McMillan; treasurer, Mr. D. iWaterson; auditor, Mr. Barrman. The meeting decided to urge the consolidation of all patriotic funds, and the expenditure of the canteen funds for by returned soldiers on the lines of the recent Rehabilitation Commission's report. It was further decided to protest against the proposed ''changes in the personnel cf the War Pensions Appeals Board, and also against, any suggestion to affect ! the present solemnity of Anzac Day.
