THE MAUI POMARE.
QUESTION OF DISPOSAL. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE VIEW. The Prime Minister's intimation that the Government will bo prepared to consider an offer from private enterprise for the disposal of the motor-vessel Maui Pomare was considered by the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce at its meeting yesterday. On the motion of the president, Mr. A. M. Seaman, it was agreed to reply indicating that although there is a. distinct probability of a move being made to purchase the Maui Pomare if negotiations can be conducted under reasonablo business conditions, the chamber is of the opinion that the suggestions contained in the Prime Minister's letter are such as to prevent any such move. It watf resolved further to suggest that the Government should either state the price at which it wnuld consider unconditional purchase of the vessel or call for tenders for its purchase, the conditions of tender 1.0 be set out and to state: (1) Tho frequency of the service and (2) the subsidies which tho Government would be prepared to grant, " to euablo a continuance of the services which tho departmental administration of the venture has shown to be unprofitable."
