Hon. J. G. Coates replied to the fusion offer, hut. now that it has heen declined the nomination will he made almost immediately. MR. PETRIE'S CAMPAIGN. address at whitford. A largely-attended meeting of the electors of the Haurnki electorate was held in the Whit ford Public Hall last evening, when Mr. C. H. Pel lie, the Labour candidate, continued his campaign. Referring to the agitation for lower costs, Mr. Petric said that all agreed that, costs must come down, but the question was what costs. Wages, interest, rents and rating all played an important, part in production. The first charge on industry should be tlio wants of the community' and those wants should bo satisfied before any excess payment was made to any other interest. The size and efficiency of a business could only be increased by increasing the purchasing power of the community.
