STOWAWAYS ON VESSELS.
RETURNING TO AUSTRALIA. On board the steamer Canadian Commander, which reached Auckland from Halifax yesterday morning, are two young stowaways who arc being returned to Australia. The two stowaways and eight other men concealed themselves on board the steamer Canadian Britisher at Brisbane when she was about to sail tor Halifax. Shortly after that vessel's departure seven of the stowaways weie discovcied and were taken back and sent ashore. The other tlirce, including the two now at Auckland, remained concealed until the vessel was clear of the port, when they revealed themselves.
The vessel's first port of call was Panama, where the three stowaways were landed to await a steamer so that they could be sent back to Australia. During the waiting period at Panama one of the stowaways obtained employment on a British steamer which was short of a man. The other two were placed on the Canadian Commander when she arrived at Panama on April 7. Being stowaways the two young men arc prohibited immigrants and will not bo allowed to land at any of the vessel's ports of call until she reaches Brisbane, where they embarked. On the vessel s arrival at "Auckland the two men were interviewed by Ihc waterfront police, but they were not arrested, it not being the wish of the local agents of the steamer to have the men put in gaol, as they hail promised not to desert while the vessel was in port. One is English and the other is an Aiis tralian. Both have been kept employed on the voyage.
