CLUB'S 10TH ANNIVERSARY.

INTERNATIONAL SERVICE. THE VALUE OF TOLERANCE. The 10th anniversary of the formation of the. Auckland Rotary Club was celebrated yesterday at the clubs weekly luncheon, which was held in Milne and Choyce's reception hall. At I lie invitation of the president, Mr. C. J. Tunks, Sir George Fowlds, who was one of the founders of the club, and the first. New Zealand Rotary Commissioner, addressed members on the growth of the movement. As Sir George had lo6t his classification, owing to his retirement from business, the president moved that lie should be elected ;i past services member of the club. This was carried unanimously. • Tlie visitors yesterday included: Messrs. ,1. M. Thompson, of Winnipeg; H. Harbuft and H. J. llardcastle, of Sydney; M. El. Henry, of Belfast; 11. J. Guthrie, of Dunedin; G. W. Guthrie and F. Dyer, of Wellington; and C. H. Burgess, of New Plymouth.

The speaker for the day was Mr. H. J. Guthrie, the New Zealand district governor of the Rotary movement, who is to sail by the Niagara to-day to attend the annual international Rotary conference at Vienna. Mr. Guthrie took as his subject the sixth object of Rotary, "International Service," and made a strong plea for a broader outlook in international affaus. The surest way to prevent future wars, he said, was to cultivate a more tolerant and sympathetic attitude toward foreign countries, and to abolish fears, jealousies and suspicions which had been so prominent in causing wars in tho past. The speaker advised the members to bear in mind that a country should not be judged by a few loud-spoken and objectionable individuals.

A vote of thanks to the speaker, moved by Mr. W. Colt man, was carried. A nomination committee was appointed for the selection of nominees for the executive offices to be filled in the ensuing vear. Professor C. R. Knight was elected as a new member of the club.
