HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent lost evening:— The new depression of tropical character is moving on to the Dominion from the west. Expect fair to cloudy weather, becoming overcfist, and rain following in most districts. Morning fogs in coastal areas. Northerly to north-easterly winds, moderate to strong prevailing, and freshening. Seas becoming rough and increasing southward from Cape Egmont and East Capo. Local outlook: Cloudy and unsettled, with rain following. Cold temperatures, but milder to-night. Barometer, midnight, falling .. 30.30 in. Midnight, Saturday .. .. 30.45 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 62deg.; Minimum, 42deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows.:—An anti-cyclone has been crossing the Dominion to-day, while a moderate depression has been advancing over the southern Tasman Sea. Barometers have risen over eastern Australia. Indications arc for freshening northerly winds, backing to southerlies in tho south after about 20 hours, and later southerlies becoming general. Seas moderate generally, but rising south of Capo Egmont and about Cook and Fouveaux Straits. Moderate to strong northerly winds, backing shortly to southerly in the eastern Tasman Sea; moderate to rather rough seas. Weather still mainly fair at first, but cloud and hazo increasing generally and showers developing soon in western districts and in the northern and southern extremities of the Dominion. ; RAINFALL RECORD.
