GERMANY ELIMINATED. IRELAND BEATS SWITZERLAND. (Received May 3. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Mav 2. At Dus.seldorf, in the first round of the Davis Cup contest ( European zone) South Africa eliminated Germany by winning matches. At Montreaux, Ireland eliminated Switzerland in the same way, and will meet South Africa in the second round.
AMERICAN ZONE PLAY. MEXICO LOSES TWO SINGLES. MEXICO CITY, May 1. In tho Davis Cup contest (American zone) Allison (United States) defeated Alfonso Unda (Mexico) 6—3, 6—l, 6—-3 and Frank Shields (United States) defeated Ricardo Tapia (Mexico) 6—4, 6—4, 6-2.
