THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE. ONLY ONE SALE ON SATURDAY. Only 0110 siilc was put through on the Auckland Stock Exchange on Saturday, a parcel of Wellington Ilaibour Board debentures changing hands at £97, a drop of £4 10s on the last Auckland salo of the same issue 18 months ago. The market for Government loans held very firm, with buyers in for most issues and sellers hard to locate. The banking group failed to recover the loss of strength of earlier in the week. Commercials were a shade firmer, with buyers up Id on the previous day s quotation. New South Wales were easier. No buyers appeared for insurance shares. Auckland Gas had inquiry at 22s 9d. Kauri Timbers were sought at the unchanged quotation of 8s 6d. The miscellaneous group was weak. Gear Meats had sellers at the latest market price of 30s 9d, but buyers were not attracted. It was reported last month that Price Brothers and Company, Limited, a firm of Canadian newsprint manufacturers, had made an announcement from its New York office to the effect that the price of newsprint would be reduced by five dollars per ton from May 1, 1931. 'I lie New Zealand agents of Price Brothers have now received cabled advice that it is not contemplated that any reduction will be made in the export market. STOCKS OF TIN. LONDON, May 1.
