He has intimate practical knowledge of the Auckland Harbour. It is necesßaj-y for a Board dealing largely with nautical affairs to have a Member qualified to speak from a. nautical point of view. All other large Harbour Boards of the Dominion have one or more members whp are passed seafarers and possessed of expert nautical experience and knowledge. Auckland suffers the disability of having no such member on its Harbour Board. As Secretary of the Merchant Service Guild (Masters and Officers' Association) he is constantly in the closest touch with Harbour Board affairs, and therefore able io apply knowledge gained by intimate association.
