OBITUARY.
MR. G. EL PIER ARD. [rSOil OUR OWS CORRESPONDENT.] OTOROHANGA, Friday. ' The death took place on Wednesday evening from heart failure of Mr. Charles Henry Pierard, at one time cbief draughtsman to the Public Works Department, aged 74. Mr. Pierard entered the service as a junior in 1873, and later was draughtsman to the Marine Department, when, on the occasion of the Russian war scare, he was selected to prepare plans for the fortification of the various ports of the Dominion. He was later transferred to the Geological Survey Department, and in 1892 to the Mines Department. He was later appointed chief draughtsman to the Public Works Department. He retired from the public service after 48 years* service some 15 years ago, and after living for some time in Wellington, he moved to Otorohanga, where he had lived for the past five years. He leaves a widow, one son, who is a draughtsman in the Public Works Department at Dunedin, and a daughter, Mrs. Monro, of Whawharua, Otorohanga. .MRS. J. O'CONNOR. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] PUKEKOHE, Friday. The death occurred to-day of Mrs. Rose Anne O'Connor, aged 65 years, wife of Mr. James O'Connor, of Pukekohe. Mrs. O'Connor, who was the daughter of the tate Mr. and Mrs. Peter Malone, two old colonists, was bora at Panmure. In 18S3 she married and settled with Mr. O'Connor in the Pukekohe district. Mrs. O'Connor always took a prominent part in welfare movements in the district and during the war she was closely associated with Red Cross work. She is survived by her husband, one son and five daughters. There, are 15 grandchildren.
