LAND SETTLEMENT. RELIEF FOR UNEMPLOYMENT. LACK OF CO-OPERATION. What was described as a lack of cooperation between different sections of tho public service in connection with land settlement was commented upon at yesterday's meeting of the Land Settlement and Development League. The secretary, Mr. N. G. Gribble, stated that at the last meeting a' letter had been received from tho Hon. A. J. Murdoch, Minister of Agriculture, who referred to'tho result of the Unemployment Board's efforts to have men profitably employed on the land as negligible. A letter had also been received from the Hon. S. G. Smith, Minister of Labour, who stated that 2142 men had been profitably absorbed into productive work as a result of the board's schemes. Mr. Gribblo added that in tho past week the league had been informed that (ho board was going to put into effect tho league's zone settlement scheme, but without the essential safeguard of the local advisory committees, which it had strongly urged. The Director of Education had informed the league that it was not considered worth while to prepare a register of boys wanting to go on the land, but that headmasters at the different schools would be glad to give, any information when required.
