CABINET AND GOVERNOR.
WHERE MR. LANG FAILS. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL SEATS. When Sir Dudley Do Chair was Governor of New South Wales and Mr. Lang was not pleased with him, it was the custom to have only two Ministers attend meetings of the Executive Council, although occasionally there were more. The Premier did not attend unless ho had something to ask. This apparently was Intended to make the Governor realise that the Ministry did not esteem his office, although it was compelled, for tho time being, to endure if.. There was a, full attendance, including the Premier, when tho final demand was made upon Sir Dudley Do Chair to permit tho "swamping" of tho Legislative Council. Every Minister spoke according to plan, expressing himself as being convinced of tho necessity for appointing a large number of new members. It was thought that, Sir Dudley He Chair would feel the. pressure. He rose, when all had concluded their remarks, and intimated that, nothing that had been said had influenced him in tho slightest degree. He saw his duty clearly and he would do it.
Sir Philip Game, well advised of the history of recent years, is following a similar course, says the Sydney correspondent of (lie Melbourne Argus. He will do what lie deems lo be right and he will not be influenced wrongly, although all (lie eyes of I lie Cabinet may bo concentrated upon liini. 111 s reply to tho demand made of liiin was not given at fhe conclusion of the meeting <>f tho Executive Council. He deferred his ieply and sent it, by bis official secretary.
