ALLEGED THREAT TO KILL.
CHARGE AGAINST CLERK. " WHOLE THING A JOKE." "The whole thing was only a joke; I think accused had been to the pictures to see 'Dr. Fu Manchu,' and then went home and wrote this letter, ' said Mr. Noble in the Court yesterday, when Alexander Lawson McLeod Hall, aged 58, clerk, was charged with sending to Alma Grey a. letter containing threats to kill her sons. Accused was remanded until Monday on the application of DetectiveSergeant Kelly. "Do the police know anything about him?" asked the magistrate, Mr. E. C. Cut ten, when counsel asked for bail. Mr. Kelly: He has been here only about 12 months. We know he wrote this threatening letter. Counsel: To his sister-in-law. Mr. Kelly: That is so. Hall was allowed bail of £SO in his own recognisance, with a surety of an equal amount.
