BRITISH PARTY CONFERS. BREAKAWAY MOTION LOST. ATTACKS UPON GOVERNMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received April G, 7.25 p.m.) LONDON"! April 5. The delegates to the Independent Labour Party's Conference, by 173 votes to 37, rejected a motion to instruct the council to break away from the Labour Party. However, a considerable volume of opinion in the conference favoured a split. Attacks upon Government werii cheered. Mr. A. Fenner Brockway, member ok" the House of Commons for Leyton East, was elected chairman of the party. Mr. A. F. Brockway formerly was editor of the Labour Leader. He was elected member for Leyton East at the last general election by a majority of 2420 votes over the Conservative candidate, Mr. E. E. Alexander, who had held :it previously. In 1923 Mr. Brockway was appointed secretary of the Independent Labour Party in succession to Mr. Francis Johnson. ......
