HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. OVERCAST WITH RAIN. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. (o-day was supplied by Mr. If. M. Vincent Inst evening:— The tropical depression is moving on to tho northern portion of the North Island. Expect cloudy and unsettled weather, with rain in most districts, heavy in North Auckland and east roast areas. Easterly to north easterly winds, moderate to strong, increasing strong to gale in the north. Hough seas on tho east const northward from East Cape, moderate seas on the west coast. Local outlook: Overcast, with heavy rain. Mild temperatures. Barometer, midnight, Bteady .. 30.201n. Midnight, Sunday .. .. 30.301n. Temperature in shade yesterday (to niid- ■ night)— Maximum, 65deg.; Minimum, 57deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —An anti-cyclone covers New Zealand and the Tasmun Sea. A slight low-pressure wave crossed the southern districts on Sunday liight, and another rather more intense one is now passing Tasmania. Indications are for moderate variable winds, but shortly tending northerly and freshening in and south of Cook Strait. Seas generally smooth to moderate. Winds variable in the northern portion of tho eastern Tasnian Sea and freshening westerly to north-westerly in tho southern portion. Seas moderate. Weather still mainly fair to fine, but some scattered showers likely, more especially in tho northern and southern extremities of the Dominion and on the west coast of the South Island. Temperatures cold to-night, but becoming milder to-morrow.
