NIGHTMARCH AMISS.

LEG TROUBLE AGAIN. I NOT TO START IN HANDICAPS. • —■ VERTIGERN ALSO LAME. LnV TELECR.mr. —own correspondent. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday. Night march was not galloped yesterday owing to Ilia front lei;, which gave trouble prior to tho Wellington meeting, again affecting him. It was intended to give him somo fast work to-day with R, Reed up to decide upon his progrnmmo. but ns the ailment is still in evidence he was restricted to trotting exercise. Tho owner and trainer later resolved that a risk would be taken if Nightmarch was produced in the Great Easter and he will be withdrawn from the race to-mor-row. His engagement in the Great Autumn will also bo cancelled. Provided that he improves, however, he will probably contest tho Challenge Slakes on Tuesday. Reed was immediately engaged for Arrow Lad in the Great Easter. Arrow Lad arrived this morning and will now bo a strong favourite for to-morrow's race.

Vertigcrn pulled up lanio after galloping seven furlongs on tho plough this morning and his chance in tho Great Autumn doc 3 not look favourable. True Shaft sprinted three furlongs today" well with Reed in the saddle. Black Duke easily accounted for Palermo over six furlongs in 1.17. The latter is a bad track galloper and no line could be obtained ns to to-morrow's prospects. A rider has not yet been engaged for him. A 1 Jolson was responsible for an attractive gallop over six furloncs in 1.16 3-5 and' will cause True Shaft most trouble. The weather was perfect to-day and thero is every indication of another fine day tomorrow. Friday's rain has left tho track in excellent order. SATURDAY'S TRAINING WORK. IMPROVEMENT BY LIMERICK. [CV TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. Historic was resnonsible for an attractive frallon to-dny. Ho cave Shatter three lengths break at the start of a seven furlongs journey and tho pair finished together in 1.31 1-5. Autopny, who has plenty of supporters for tho Great, Easter, sprinted half a milo and finished on well in 525. Black Duke accepted for tho Riverton Cup run to-dny. b'.it put in an appearance at Riccarton yesterday and will contest the Sockburn Handicap on Monday. If he races prominently he will como into favour for tho Great Autumn.

Great Star reeled off the fastest gallop, recording 1.3 2-5 for fivo furlongs, the last half in 51s. Ho is at the top of his form just now and can be expected to inako a bold showing 011 Monday. Chrysology drew attention to his condition by always holding True Shaft safe over five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. This gallop, howevor, will not prevent True Shaft from being a short-priced favourite in the Cour, tenny Handicap. Spoon, who will be ridden by B. H. Morris in the Sockburn Handicap, has been galloping well lately and executed a pleasing nine furlong task to-day. Ball Dress gave a poor display, being decisively beaten by Full Feather and Semper Paratus.

Limerick showed marked improvement in a gallop over seven furlongs this morning with Chaimeuse. Tho latter shot away at the half mile nnd led into tho straight by about four lengths, but Limerick finished ill something like his old style nnd actually headed Charmeuso in the last stride. Tho time, 1.32 2-5, was a second outside the best of tho morning, but nevertheless the gallop was very satisfactory 011 the part of both horses. Chaimeuse conceded ii stone .in weight and provided that tho track ro■Oiains as at present should prove troublesome in the Great Easter.
