COMBINED CLUBS' EVENTS.

CRUISING AND HARBOUR RACES.

IDEAL WEATHER CONDITIONS.

Combined harbour and cruising races were liefld by the Akarana Yacht Club and tho Victoria Cruising Club on Saturday afternoon. Tho keel yachts, mullet boats and launches raced to Matiatia and the smaller classes competed over a harbour course. The weather conditions were ideal for yachting, a full-sail breeze from the nor.th prevailing throughout the afternoon. All 'ovents wore started from off King b Wharf. In addition to its usual races for lift, boats, the Akarana Club also held its annual championship cup v race for 14ft. classes. This event brought out three competitors and was won by Lois. Maneno secured a win in races of the Akarana Club and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, the latter body holding a special race for class M in conjunction with the Akarana Club. Two first prizes were also won by Marie and Omatcre. Details are as follows: CRUISING EVENTS.

Tho keel yacjits wore sent away first, nine boats facing the starter. Speedwell crossed the line first, closely followed by Maybello, Waiono, Wairiki, Windward, Janet, Maliaki and Iria. lona was 4m 10s late. Speedwell lost her dinghy at the start and tho crew of Maybello very smartly picked it up and carried it somo distance down the harbour where it was handed over to Speedwell, enabling tho latter to continue in the raco. Meanwhile W'aiono went into tho load followed by Wairiki and Windward. The raco started at 2.30 p.m. The finishing times were:—Waiono (scr), Ih I.lm 2(55; Wairiki (7m 30s), 4h 16m 525: Windward (2m).-4h 18m 2s; Speedwell (7m), 4h 23ni 7s; Mahaki (9m), -111 24m 265: lona (7m).' 4h 25m 275; Janet (12m), 4h 26m 545; Maybelle (13ru). 4h 31m 17s; Iris (15m), 4h 36m .10s

Tho raco for '!(>-foolcrs brought out six starters, nil crossing the within 45 seconds of each other. Spray was first away and next to her came Oniatere, Celox, Starlight, Awatero and Why Not. Omatere passed Spray shortly after tho start. and was never headed.

The race started at 2.38 p.m. The finishing times were:—Omatere, 4h 26m 63a; Spray, 4h 32m 3s; Starlight, 4h 31m 9s; Celox, 4h 36m 575; Awatere. 4h 40m 395; Why .Not, 4h 45m 51s. Nine boats stinted in the raco for classes L and N, Huin crossing the line first closely followed by Wairere, Malua, Mowai, Marie, Waiapu, Matariki and Doreen. Otira was 2m late. Marie overhauled the, leaders on the way down the harbour and finished well uliead of the fleet. The race started at 2.46 p.m. The finishing times were:—Marie, 4h 43m 21s; Wairere, 4h 49m 40a; Doreen. 4h 53m. lis; Waiapu, 5h 375; Otira, 5h 50s; Mowai. 5h 3m 14s; Malua, 5h 3m 465; Huia, 5s 4m 275; Matariki, 5h 7m 14s. In the race for launches only six boats started, Kenya leading the way over the line, followed by Nyria, Yvonne, Namoi, Octavia S and Marua. . The raco started at 2.54 p.m. The finishing times were:—Kenya, 4h 11m ss; Namoi, 4h 13m; Nyria, 4h 18m 28s; Yvonne, 4h 25m 355; Marua, 4h 26m 503; Octavia S, 4h 35m 2s.

HARBOUR RACES. Six boats started in the race for class M, this event being hold in conjunction with the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Manene led all the . way round the course. The race, started at 3.2 p.m. The finishing times were:—Manene, 4h 20m 10s; Maroro. 4h 20m 58s; Mawhiti, 4h 24m 30s; Manu, 4h 25m 7s; Matarere, 4h 25m 18s; Memutu, 4h 29m 43a. ' Classes V and S were sent away together,. Leverette crossed the, line first and next to her came Wild Wave, Avro, Swiftsure, Waitoa. Sceptre and Ben Bolt in the order named. On completion of the first round Avro was 40s ahead of Wild Wave, which led Sceptre by 545. Then followed Leverette, Waitoa, Ben Bolt and Swiftsure, all strung out well astern. a . . The race started at 3.10 p.m. "The finishing times were:—Avro, 4h 28m 325; Wild Wave, 4h 29m 335; Sceptre, 4h 31m 455; Leverette. 4h 32m 295;, Ben Bolt, 4h 38m 41s; Waitoa. 4h 39m 335; Swiftsure. 4h 46m 16s. Eleven boats faced the starter in the race for T, X and Y classes. The fleet made a fine showing as it waited for gunfire, and when the last flag fell Lois crossed first, just ahead of Fay, Sybila, Muritai. Sea Pixie and Meteor, the remainder being close up except Vera. Lois, Fay and Sybila soon opened up a big lead from the others, v Passing King's Wharf on completion of the first round Lois was 3m 26s ahead of Fay, which was leading Sybila by 595. Jupiter was fourth, lm 26s further astern. Lois further improved her position in the second round. The race started at 3.10 p.m. The finishing times were:—Lois, 4h 38m 8s; Fay, 4h 43m 14s; Sybila. 4h 44m 21s; Jupiter, 4h 50m 8s; Sea Pixie, 4h 51m-465: Meteor, 4h 54m 28s; Muritai. 4h 57m 2s; Betty. 4h 58m 12s; Vera, 5h 3m 58s; Hapuka, 5h 6m 14s: Rita. 5h 7m. * Three Tauranga midgets (7ft. class) were sf>nt over a short course and created a good deal of interest. ROYAL SQUADRON'S RACE.

* SUCCESS OF MANENE.

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron held a race for class M on Saturday afterneon, in conjunction with the Akarana Yacht Club. The course was from King's Wharf, round the Bastion beacon, thence round Whito Light buoy in Rangitoto Channel, back to King's Wharf; From an excellent start Manene prossed the line just ahead of Maniv; Mawhftj and Malarero, then came Memutu and Maroro. Manene improved her position on the lead to the BastiDH and Maroro ran into second place. Rounding Whito Light the order was:—Manenf), Maroro, Mawhiti, Manu, Matarere. Memutu. On the run in to North Head Maroro closed on Manene and from this point to the finishing lino very little separated the two boats. POWER-BOAT ASSOCIATION.

PII'MC AT MOTUIHI.

The New Zealand Power-borit Association ajid tho outboard division of Ihe asßociation held a picnic at Motuihi Island on Saturday afternoon. The cruisers assembled off King's Wharf and, led by Commodore 11. O. Wiles in his motor-yacht Lady Margaret, proceeded to their destination, where a most interesting sports programme was carried cut. The tug-of-war between members of the association and tho outboard division created great amusement and was won by the former team.

In addition to the picnic a rnco for outboards from King's Whnrf to Motuihi was also held. The boats were sent away accordlug to their handicaps, the limit boat storting at 2.;50 p.m. The competitors and their handicaps were:—Bonzo, 30s behind limit; Redskin, Sm; Redstreak. iim 10s; Chancit. r™r° R R- n f ly Eve, 4m DOs: Velox. 7m .10s; Jjlttle Giant, Km 355. The Takapuna Boating Club held a' race for class Z on Saturday afternoon. Owing 1o tho title being unsuitable for the club to use its usual cotirsu, tho raco started and finished off Wliarf. From an excellent start Trevic look the lead and on completion of tho first round phe ivaß 2m ahead of Kitty. In tho second round, however, tho hitter made up a lot of leeway and wa3 just beaten over tho line "by one second. The race started at 2.(!0 p.in.
