LAND SPEED RECORD.

CAMPBELL WATCHING SMITH

PREPARED TO VISIT AUCKLAND

(Received March 15. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. March 14,

Sir Malcolm Campbell stated to-day that if his information about " Wizard" Smith's car was correct he believed Smith had an excellent chance of beating his (Sir Malcolm's) i Daytona Beach record in his forthcoming attempt on Ninety Mile Beach, North Auckland. " If Smith does beat my record," said Sir Malcolm, " I shall certainly go to Auckland with the Bluebird and attempt to regain the record. Smith's engine is the samo as mine and with an average amount of luck and good conditions I quite expect him to create a new record.

" The Bluebird now is on the way to the British Empire Exhibition at Buenos Aires. It still has a few miles an hour in reserve and has been carefully tuned up in view of the possibility of another record run. The moment I hear of Smith's success I shall prepare to go to Auckland, as I feel confident that the Bluebird can travel faster than any car in the world to-day."
