ST. PATRICK'S DAY.
TO-MORROW'S BANK HOLIDAY
CONCERT IN TOWN HALL,
St. Patrick's Day falls fo-morrow and will be observed as a holiday by the banks. Government., insurance and legal offices no longer enjoy the privilege of holidays on saints' days and will remain open.
In the evening the customary national concert will bo held in the Town Hall, under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Church, and all proceeds will be handed to the Mayor of Auckland's earthquake relief fund. It is expected that about 600 children from 15 church schools and a number of prominent local artists will take part. Another interesting attraction will be the St. Patrick's Day sports and children's carnival, to bo held on the Domain on Thursday. A feature of the gathering will bo a physical drill display by students of Sacred Heart College and the Vermont Street school, while there will also be numerous athletic events and ball games. The proceeds will be devoted to the earthquake fund, the 500 children who aro to tako part having offered to accept certificates in lieu of trophies. Special services were held in St. Patrick's Cathedral yesterday in recognition of the patronal festival. Bishop Liston presided at all services and members of the Hibernian Society attended the celebration of Mass.
