HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.
FAIR TO CLOUDY.
The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. jr. Vincent last evening:—Barometric pressure is still high over the Dominion, but a depression is now moving on to tho western Tasman Sea. A continuance of chiefly fair to .fine weather is expected generally, although with increasing cloudiness, for a change in conditions to follow shortly. Variable and moderato breezes, northerly to northeasterly winds, moderate to strong, prevailing, and freshening. Seas moderato. Local outlook: Fair to cloudy. Cool temperatures, becoming warmer. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.25 in. Midnight, Saturday .. .. 30.35 in. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum. 77defi.; Minimum 59deg.
GOVERNMENT REPORT. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A depression is crossing New Zealand to-day, while a moderate anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Indications are for northerly winds, strong at times in jmd south of Cook Strait, otherwise moderate. A southerly change setting in sjhortly in tho south and becoming general [within about 24 to 36 hours. Seas rather rough to rough in Cook and Foveaux I Straits; clsowhero moderato. Moderato to strong northerly winds, backing later to southwesterlies, in tho eastern Tasman Sea, with rather rough seas. Weather cloudy in most districts. Scattcrcc rain gradually developing, but mainly in western districts and South Island. Temperatures becoming cooler.
