GARDEN FETE.
OTAHUHU OHURCH EFFORT.
A large garden fete lasting all the afternoon and evening was held in the vicarage grounds at Portage Road, Otahuhu, on Tuesday. Organised by Holy Trinity Church in an effort to augment the vicarage funds the function was a great success. The proceedings were opened by the Countess of Orford, who made feeling reference to the late vicar, the Rev. C. B. W. Seton.
During the afternoon a baby show was held, Dr. Purchas officiating as judge. The prize-winning babies were: Boys: Under six months, Jim Sarnerey; 12 months, David Smith; 18 months, Lauiie Bell; two years, Ralph Cumming. Girls: Under six months, May Baldwin and Dorothy May (equal), 1; 12 months, June Hine; 18 months, Decirna Cooper;. two years, Melva Ellery. The lawns were occupied by numerous Stalls laden with produce and goods and afternoon tea was served at tables set up in the shade of the trees. The stallholders were:—Produce, Mrs. Hubbard (convener), Mesdameg J. L. Harris, Goodbehere, A. W. Day, Scott and Miss Shipp; sweets, Mrs. K. M. Todd; cakes, Mrs. Brafit (convener), Mrs, Woods and Mrs West; guild stall, Mesdames G. MoDell, F. McDell, Davies, Mouton, Jameson, Arnold, T. W. Day and Miss Webb; ice cream (donated by Miss May), Miss May and Mrs. E. Harris; teas, Mrs. H. I Lovell (convener), Mesdames J. A. Paine, Hart, Menzies, Misses Savage and Lodge; sideshows and sports, Mr. T. W. the evening the grounds presented a fine spectacle, the lighting effects installed by Messrs. A. Paine and V. McLeod lending an Eastern touch to the scene. Treasure hunts were organised for the adults and the young folks and the eaiety continued until a late hour. During the afternpon the Countess of Orford was presented with a beautiful bouquet by Miss Peggy Lovell. ... ,
