SCENE IN PARLIAMENT.
MEMBER AND SPEAKER. SHARP ORDER FOR REMOVAL. Mr. W. Foster, Nationalist member for Vaucluse, Sydney, was removed from the New South Wales Legislative Assembly last weok in the course of the debate on the Amending Arbitration Bill. Mr. Kelly, while speaking on the bill, referred to certain criticism of Mr. Justice Piddington, and Mr. Foster interjected, " He's got a rat." There was an immediate protest from Labour members. Mr. Kelly: Mr. Speaker, I draw your attention to & remark by the honourable member.
The Speaker: (Mr. F. M. Burke): I must ask the honourable member to withdraw.
Mr. Foster: I did not compare Mr. Justice Piddington to a rat. I merely said he was possessed of a rat. The Speaker (heatedly): You did say it. I heard you distinctly.
Mr. Foster: I said he was —. Mr. Speaker: Remove the honourable gentleman. As the Sergeant-at-Anns approached Mr. Foster left the chamber.
Mr. Foster stated subsequently that he had intended to withdraw his statement but was prevented from doing so by the Speaker's heated order for his removal.
