MOTHERS' LEAGUE.
CITY BRANCH. A brief account of his experiences in the Hawke's Bay earthquake area, which he visited recently as an envoy for the Mayor of Auckland, was given by the Rev. C. G. Scrimgeour, at the first meeting for the year of the city branch of the Mothers' League held in the Mission Hall, Airedale Street, yesterday afternoon. The most notable thing among the sufferers Mr. Scrimgeour considered was the spirit of good fellowship and comradeship which existed. From that a lesson might be drawn, that the happiest homes were not necessarily those in which thore was abundant wealth, but those in which a bond of comradeship existed between husband, wife and family. The president, Mrs. P. A. Lindsay, welcomed fihe members, many new ones being enrolled. Mrs. Hobday sang two songs, which added greatly to the pleasure of the occasion.
Afternoon tea was dispensed by tho following members of the ladies' committee: Mrs. Kielh S. Macky, Mrs. W. J. Webster, Mrs. W. Sadler, Mrs. C. A. West, Mrs. W. M. Passmore, Mrs. T. Purdom, Mrs. Horace Elliott, Mrs. R. T. Wilson,' Mrs. J. Reid; Mrs. C. H. Tewsley, Mrs. R. Tracy Inglis, Airs. Havill, Airs. Nudds and Airs. Wainwright.
