Against the English cricketers, who made 254, Western Province in the first innings made 316, the highest score by a province against the Marylebono team. Goulden made 75 not out, including one sixer, one five and eight fourg, and Deklerk 54, including seven fours. Allom took six wickets for 42.
Tho visitors in the second innings have made 54 for one wicket. DRYING THE WICKET. MACHINE TRIED AT LORD'S. (Received March 10. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, March 9. Tho cricket authorities are interested in a wicket-drying machine, which is being tried at Lord's. It consists of a large boxlike arrangement, with a powerful electric fan, to run on the pitch in a small truck. The experiments so far - show remarkable evaporation of dampness.
