SURF LIFE-SAVING.
INCREASED INTEREST SHOWN.
SUGGESTED HARBOUR SWIM.
Increasing interest in surf life-saving clubs is being shown by the public, and membership in the two principal North Shore clubs, Takapuna and Milford, is steadily increasing. The latter club early this season had barely a full team, although a season 01 so ago it had 28 members. Tho new members of the club did very commendable work last weekend in the four-man team competition. Recently tho club held its beltman s championship over a 200 yards run out, when S. Bacon and F. Wells tied in 2m 595. The Takapuna club's active membership is now over 30. At an early date the club will hold its first beach marathon swim. Most of tho members of the club are powerful distance swimmers, and a large entry is expected, and D. McLeod J. tslakey and N- Browne are expected to do well. Mr. J. Russell, wellknown in boxing circles, has offered a fine trophy for this event. B. Hart, a member of the Takapuna B team, put up a record t.imo for the 33 1-3 yards, in the Takapuna Grammar School races held last week. Next season Takapuna hopes to take a greater part in competitive swimming than formerly. It is interesting to note that, all but ohb of tho Australian titleholders are surf swimmers. The formation of a polo team is suggested, and the organisation of ft marathon harbour swim to finish at Takapuna. Beach is being discussed. Teams will compete next week-end for the Pirate Shippe Plate,*a competition for land-drill only, to be held at Milford. The following week-end competitive fourmen teams from both clubs will run out on Takapuna Beach.
