MOUNT EDEN TRAM ROUTE. AVONDAJJE PROPOSALS. " This is a case in which the board is giving something away," said the chairman of the Auckland Transport Board, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, yesterday, following the adoption by the board of a rearrangement of sections on the Mount Eden tram route, which will come into operation with the opening of the Three Kings extension 011 March 29.
lliere will lie four sections on the line, averaging a mile and a-quarter. The first will extend from the city to the top of Symonds Street, a distance of 136 chains; the second from Symonds Street to Prospect Rise, 84 chains; the third from Prospect Rise to Ellerton Road, 87 chains; and the fourth from Ellerton Road to Mount Albert Road, 94 chains. The manager, Mr. A. E. Ford, said that by extending the. second section outward from The Drive, at the entrance to the mountain, an additional 17 chains to Prospect Rise, and the third section outward to Ellerton Road, 25 chains beyond the present section end at Pencarrow Avenue, the sections on the route would be brought as near as practicable into line with those on the Dominion Road route and would equitably divide the route between Symonds Street and tha new terminus at Mount Albert Ifoad. In regard to the Mount Albert-Avon-dale extension, on the recommendation of Mr. Ford it was decided to apply for the necessary Order-in-Council fixing the sections between the present terminus near the intersection of Mount Albert Road and New North Road and the intersection of Ennismore Road with the New North Road, and between the intersection of Ennismore Road with New North Road and the terminus near tha intersection of Brown Street with Great North Road.. The usual fares were adopted.
