HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST

CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED. Tho following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:—The depression of tropical character, which is only moderate in intensity, is moving on to the North Island. Expect cloudy to overcast conditions, with rain in most districts, and thunder is probable in tho North, and in places near tho west coast. Warm and humid conditions, becoming cooler shortly. Northerly to north-east-erly winds, moderate to strong, freshening, and backing to west. Rough seas on the east coast, and increasing southward from Cape Egmont. Local outlook: Cloudy and unsettled, with intermittent rain. Thunder probable. Conditions are expected to show an early improvement. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 30.30 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: A moderate depression is moving on to New Zealand, while a fairly intense anti-cyclone covers south-eastern Australia. Indications are for strong northerly winds, backing to southerlies before morning in tho south, and southerlies becoming general within about 24 hours. Seas in New Zealand waters rough south of Cape Egmont and in Cook ami Foveaux Straits, elsewhere moderate. Strong northerly winds, backing shortly to strong southerlies, in the eastern Tasman. Seas rather rough, weather cloudy and mild generally, rain in western districts and extending gradually over tho remainder of tho Dominion, with temperatures becoming cooler to-mor-row.
