SPORT AT WHANGAROA.
EXCITEMENT FOR ANGLERS.

Swordfisk and mako- shark are now numerous in the Whangaroa deep-sea fish-
ing grounds. During the week-end two fine mako» were landed, one weighing 4281b., by Mr. n. B. Watson, from the launch Alma G., and the' other, weighing 4181b., by Mr. H. I'. McLean. Mr. Watson's fish put tip a strong fight and made one remarkably high leap clear of the surface. Mr. McLean was even • more fortunate, his fish leaping 17 times. -Mr. E. Lambe, of Sydney, fishing from the launch Rosemary, had a strenuous battle with a well-conditioned black marlin, weighing 3211b. Dr. Pettit, of Auckland, from the launch Valhalla, and Mr. S- Ellis, of Hamilton, from the launch Reelemin, had great sporb with two swordfish, weighing 3051b. and 3011b. Other catches were:—Mr. H. D. Lees, London, launch Hazel, swordfish, 2601b.; Mr. W. Davie, launch Rona, mako, 2561b.; Lieut. Masters, launch Marlin, mako, 2601b. Commodore G. Blake will arrive this week, and will fish from the launch Reelemin.
