METALLED ROAD WANTED.
TAURANGA TO ROTORUA.
IMPROVEMENT TO GAP URGED
[BY' TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAUBANGA, Tuesday.
Several speakers at a meeting of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce last evening made a strong plea for the permanent improvement by the Government of the remaining unmetalled portion of the Tauranga-Kotorua direct road.
It was stated that this route shortened the distance between Tauranga and Rotorua to about 40 miles and that it was very desirable in tho interests of both towns that the metalling should be completed as soon as possible. There were twelve and a-half miles unmetalled and it was estimated that the work could bo completed for £12,000. A committee was appointed to confer with the local bodies interested in tho preparation of a letter to the Minister of Public Works urging tho completion of the road.
Another motion was adopted requesting the Minister of Internal Affairs to take such action as will make it impossible foi the beauty of country roads to be spoiled by advertisements.
