DOMINION CRICKETERS.
COMING TOUR OF ENGLAND.
KEEN INTEREST AROUSED.
Considerable interest is being taken in England in the forthcoming tour of the New Zealand cricket team, according to Mr. H. D. Swan, representative of the Now Zealand Cricket Council in England, who is in Auckland in the course of a short visit to the Dominion. " The first tour in 1927 was highly successful," Mr. Swan 6aid. " The team was immediately popular both with English players and spectators, and accordingly no difficulty was experienced in arranging an even better programme for # this year. " Cricketers in England as well as in New Zealand will sincerely hope that nothing will happen to interfere with the tour. Personally, I think the visit of the team will be a really valuable advertisement for the Dominion. I have no doubt that many people in England are of the opinion that the Hawke s Bay earthquake affected the whole country lind not just a comparatively small area, but the visit of the team, ' according to plan,' would ■ help toward an understanding of the true position. Another point is that many of the county matches have been arranged for special cricket festival weeks and the abandonment of the tour would affect the whole programme for the season. " Most cricketers in New Zealand seem to be quite satisfied that the team selected is a strong side. It is especially pleasing to note that it contains a number of young players, who should benefit considerably from the trip." Mr. Swan will leave Auckland for Wellington this evening and will sail for England by the Ruahine on baturday.
