HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

FAIR TO FINE.

Tlio following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening:— The intenso westerly depression, accompanied by a secondary storm area, has now crossed (ho Dominion, and an area of high barometric pressure, enclosing a fine weather system, is moving on to New Zealand. Indications favour a general improvement in conditions, pro ceded by scattered showers in places near the west coast, and in southern areas. Hail and thunder aro probable in places southward from Cape Egmont. Fair to fino weather is expected to follow generally, although with fairly cold temperatures. Southerly to south-westerly winds, moderate (o strong, decreasing and giving place to variable and modecato breezes. Rough though decreasing seas southward from Capo Egmont, moderate on other coasts Local outlook: Fair to fine. Cool temperatures. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 29.901n. Midnight, Monday .. .. 29.601n. Temperatures in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 78d<)g.; Minimum, 59deg.

GOVERNMENT REPORT,

The Government meteorologist roportcd last evening as follows: —Barometers are now rising over New Zealand under tlio influence of an anti-cyclono which is centred near Sydney and appears to be moving toward the northern portion of the Dominion. Indications are for moderate to strong south-westerly winds, still reaching galo forco nt times in exposed positions, but decreasing to-morrow. Seas rather rough to rough, but moderating to-morrow. Moderate to strong southwesterly winds and rather rough to rough but decreasing seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still changeable, with scattered showers, but soon improving. Cold temperatures, with some frosts in the South Island.
